I'm doing okay. Taking everything day by day and keeping myself as busy as I can. I miss my routines and my mobility most of all: being near friends, going into work, late-night fast food, taking walks through neighborhoods I haven't seen before, etc. I've been spending a lot of time reading and writing. Mostly writing jokes, but I've been itching to start on a few short stories I've been putting off. Here's a photo of my cat Milo sitting in his favorite spot, my vase. He loves it when I throw all his toys in there and makes a game of trying to grab them out.

I made a quarantine playlist on Spotify if anyone is in need of new jams.

Oo boy I don’t really know how to make a blurb of how I’m feeling right now. Let’s try word association. Brittle. Braille. Mustard. Rotten. Acorns. I mean Pine cones. Flower buds. Zoomies. Spring grass. My dog looking at me not knowing any context for the world outside us. My cat just threw up.

Alex Randrup is a theatre maker and art producer. She co-produces/curates FEAST: A Performance Series, and collaboratively devises new plays. Recent devised work she has directed/made include “What will this play be called” as part of the FailSafe Festival; “Love Magic Ritual Spell” at Dixon Place, and “Corey and Vanessa Present An All-Female Educational Touring Production Of Of Mice And Men” at The Tank. Alex writes haikus for/of people.

I feel this week would give me the same feeling if aliens decided to visit Earth.  That would somehow probably be much less chill.  I haven't had any FOMO lately cause there's been nothing to miss out on, which is insane and somewhat nice.  A weird time to be alive.  Thankful for the things I have and what I can do at the moment.  Each day is different but I remember them vividly.  Been sleeping a ton more than usually.  Much deeper sleep.  Facetime is really nice when I finally decide to answer and not silence the rings.

I put stuff on my instagram and try really hard on movies @ everybodysbaby.co

2020 is STILL going to be MY year:

- I've learned to brave the wilderness and make my voice heard.
- I've leaped into more daring choices.
- I've been forgiving my own mistakes and started forgiving others for theirs.
- I've managed to laugh more with myself rather than at myself. - I've released myself from a dependency on cigarettes, alcohol and random Grindr hookups.
- I've been fired from a job which I didn't even like.
- I've been offered a job which I actually like.
- I've finally received an apology from my high school bully.
- I've so far kept myself (and others) safe from a virus. Fuck it, I am going to enjoy the one life I've got, and I am going to love myself while doing it. I am free. I am happy.
I am Marnitz van Deventer. Bitch.

Chicago

I’m feeling that this moment is really scary. However, I’m seeing this subtly beautiful thing happening. The best I can explain it is like this: it’s like when you get too stoned at a party where you don’t know that many people. But then you turn and there’s this really cool, chill person who helps you calm down and they put on music and you finally see that it’s gonna be okay. Well the world is the too stoned person at the party and they are turning to the artists. And I think we are helping. Each of us. In our own small way.

Hunter is a Multi-tool of an artist from North Idaho. After getting his bfa in theatre from the University of Idaho, he relocated to Chicago where you can find him making work with The Neighborhood Theatre. While not doing theatre or visual art you can find him behind the front desk at First Ascent Uptown.

Chicago

In my quarantine, I’m trying to embrace this time where distance can’t hinder my relationships and stay playful thinking of ways to entertain myself and each other. Today on my walk, I hugged a tree to be funny and it actually felt really, surprisingly good. I highly recommend trying it. Of course I can't wait until the real thing, when I can have my friends over for dinner and hug them all as they come through the door. If you have the means, here are some communities I'm a part of that could use some love during these hard times: La Colombe Andersonville Pandemic Relief and PlayMakers Laboratory (@PlaymakersLab)

Kaylyn Carter is a performer, writer, and teaching artist from the panhandle of Florida. She teaches and performs with Playmakers Lab, Northlight Theatre, and Hot Kitchen Collective.
